Spent yesterday morning performing various website updates. Changed the front page, made a new menu, added some pages here and there. The links are now online under the offnominal pages category… Of special interest is the addition of the Area615 Messageboard, a venue for the discussion of electrionic and experimental music, especially in regards to Nashville and the rest of the Southeast. Should be a good time!
Thanks as always to our best good friends Paul and Kelly for throwing the best retro2002 party ever! You guys rawk.
Now, if I could only get the Offnominal/Discrec store set up, I’d be in good shape…

EDIT - You should still make sure to visit leron’s crib, but you can also check the trailer at the Incognito Movie site. Do it.
Just about a week or two ago I was contemplating the possibilities of using the FPS/MMORPG gaming paradigm as a method/interface for music production/performance - a “virtual venue” if you will. Looks like I need to find a copy of UT to try this out on…
… tadar . game music …
ADAMISGOD for being the first to provide their take on The Treatment Plant. Crazy, mashed-up schitzophrenic type stuff. Make sure to check it out.
was capped off by an amazing debut performance from Qlippoth. You’ll be hearing more from him soon, I think. After the Friday night turned into Saturday morning, today found me inadvertantly taking the blog down for a while in an attempt to upgrade to the latest version of Wordpress. Finally functioning again, and upgraded to boot.
Have a ton of correspondance to catch up on, so if you’re waiting for an email from me you should see it soon. If you’re not waiting for an email, why don’t you send one?
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that our friend Qlippoth
is kicking things off at The Muse tonight, opening for 62 Degrees Latitude - Mr. Natural and I will be headed out there to make sure it all goes off the hook properly.
Because I shore haven’t. Recouperating today after two days of great gigs and very little sleep… The quick recap - Angle of View show rocks solid, meet the 404noise crew for Atlanta action, Logickal last-minutes his way into improv oblivion for a brief meetup with Jhonn Balance in the lobby of an imaginary alien nightclub… more after the break.

As promised, in celebration of Valentine’s Day, the first installment of Treatment Plant reworkings is now online in the form of Sewage Treatment by Logickal. It’s more minimal/abstract than most of the other Logickal material - but that’s not a bad thing. Those that want to support Discrec and Offnominal - keep your eyes open for an affordable “hardcopy” CD release in March.
In the meantime, download away and remember- This musick is also available for use in your own tracks for the project… Who loves ya, baby?
Woke up sick this morning. Feeling terrible, so what do I do? No, I didn’t rest in bed - I made some updates to the site. Besides some tweaking here and there, there are now complete recordings of Logickal’s sets from August 19 and August 29th of 2004 are now available on the Music page. These sets highlight my current live methodology quite well - lots of the improvised sequencing and programming that Live 4 makes possible. Caution - these are large 30-odd minute mp3s, so mind your bandwidth. Also, as promised - Last Seen on the Shift, the Logickal track from Darkwinter’s Tribute to Jhonn Balance.
Enjoy!
Want more information about next Tuesday’s Mr. Natural show? The full lineup is Emil Beaulieau (The world’s greatest living noise artist>, Jessica Rylan, John Wiese, Mr. Natural, Taiwan Death and Cherry Blossoms. It’s happening at 9pm, is all ages and is at Field of View (417 Gallatin Ave). Don’t know about any cover, but bring some cash just in case - there will certainly be merchandise on sale to support the artists.
Jessica Rylan has a site here, along with a tour page here. John Wiese’s page is here. Of course, you should check out RRR Records.
Let me know if you need any further info, and we hope to see some of you there!
Thanks again to DJB for letting me join him on The Mixdown this morning… It was a blast this morning. Got the chance to sneak preview some tracks from Treatment Plant 1 for the lovely listeners. You can check it out yourself by heading to the RealAudio archive of the show.
Thanks also are due to him for inviting me out to play next Wednesday the 16th at The Muse, opening for The Octopus Project and Peelander-Z. This looks like its going to be an awesome show with some really unique bands (I mean, check ut Peelander-Z’s website for kitessake!), so all Nashville-local personas should check in.
Also going on next week - On Tuesday the 15th you have Mr. Natural playing along with Emil Beaulieau, Jessica Rylan and John Wiese at Angle of View. Then, make sure to check out Qlippoth at The Muse on Friday the 18th, for some live dark experimental music. Who says Nashville doesn’t have an incredible underground scene?
Oh, and don’t forget that Logickal’s Sewage Treatment will be available to download just in time for Valentine’s Day (that’s Monday Feb 14 for all of you without a love bug).
Okay, everyone. Offnominal/Discrec’s first online collaborative project has now gone online. Called The Treatment Plant, it is a freeform excercise in ‘Net moderated remixing and collaboration. The original sources and the guidelines/rules are available now at The Treatment Plant homepage. Be on the lookout for Logickal’s first take on these sources, Sewage Treatment on Valentine’s Day. If you have any questions about the project or wish to submit a track for inclusion, please email sewage@offnominal.com. More discussion, background and rules follow the break….

I used to own a number of these myself, passed down from my uncle (if I recall correctly).
ChucK : Concurrent, On-the-fly Audio Programming Language
what is it? : ChucK is a new audio programming language for real-time synthesis, composition, and performance, which runs on commodity operating systems. ChucK presents a new time-based concurrent programming model, which supports a more precise and fundamental level of expressiveness, as well as multiple, simultaneous, dynamic control rates, and the ability to add, remove, and modify code, on-the-fly, while the program is running, without stopping or restarting. It offers composers, researchers, and performers a powerful and flexible programming tool for building and experimenting with complex audio synthesis programs, and real-time interactive control.
Found this on boing-boing: Paperbackbeliever. Pretty awesome.
Thanks to a cryptic comment left by Gl0tch, here are a couple of other electronic musicians for you all - everyone needs to rush right out and check out Nintari and Cerebral.
Do it now, meatbags!
Oh, and if any of the rest of you crazies have cool links you want us to check out, leave a comment or something.

The first in its category, it allows users to build their own AudioUnit plugins, either by working with existing circuits or by creating circuits completely from scratch. SonicBirth is also an AudioUnits package, as it comes bundled with a set of plugins designed for standalone use as plugins as well as pre-constructed circuits to modify or build upon for creating new plugins. You all must check out Elektro Kraft.
It also contains the very rare video game sound chip that produced the sounds of many video games of the 1980’s. *External VCO input jack giving you the ability to plug in another synth, VCO, electronic keyboard, guitar, bass or vocals. Can be used as a stand alone space synth or use it to process an instrument. (Remember those pulsing sounds as the “aliens” approached?)
I want one.
