Get the hang of Thursday…

Because I shore haven’t. Recouperating today after two days of great gigs and very little sleep… The quick recap - Angle of View show rocks solid, meet the 404noise crew for Atlanta action, Logickal last-minutes his way into improv oblivion for a brief meetup with Jhonn Balance in the lobby of an imaginary alien nightclub… more after the break.

Tuesday’s show was awesome. Anyone who looks at that bill can see that it would have to be. Unfortunately I had to leave after Emil Beaulieu, causing me to miss Jessica Rylan and John Wiese - a real bummer. Mr. Natural got things started off real right with The Branch, droning feedback and an intro that was destined to be repeated. Anyway, a very good crowd at a unique venue where I did get to meet some very cool people, including a great crew from down Atlanta ways. Make sure to check out their scene at www.404noise.org and look them up if you’re ever down that ways. Looks like they’ve got a great scene and community going on down there. Here’s a link to the pictures that Travis from 404noise took at the gig.

Then there’s yesterday. I came prepared to play, but not expecting to - exhausted from a day of work (and the late night before). Didn’t look like I would play, then I suddenly was told to get my gear and get ready. Got set up, let everyone know I was NOT the Octopus Project and I was most assuredly NOT checking my email, but from what I understand no one had the chance to get that impression… Huge thanks to the promoter for giving me the chance to play, DJ B for inviting me down, and Octopus Project for rocking out fantquabulous as well. Again, a total bummer that I had to leave during the Octopus’ set, and missed Peelander-Z entirely. Also, shouts to all the great cats I met whilst hanging out, as well as to everyone who came out to see, even if you didn’t.

You can listen to a recording of the piece (minus about the last 45 seconds, my screaming, the audience’s shouting, Titania’s occasional grindings as her 500Mhz processor is pushed to the limits and my legs giving out at the end as I reach my own), entitled Tried, Balanced, Scaled (20MB 128k mp3 file - 21m51s). It utilizes source material from the Treatment Plant and the voice late, great Jhonn Balance, in whose memory the performance was dedicated. It would have been his 43rd birthday. As always, totally improvised - maybe even moreso than normal, because nothing I did in rehearsal sounded remotely like this.
