American Guernica

john t. unger studio: American Guernica: A Call for Guerilla Public Art

Artist John T. Unger wants us all to plaster copies of Picasso’s famed anti-war painting Guernica all over everywhere. Sounds good, where should I start? I think his basic concept calls for billboards, but I’m sure those of us with more meager budgets could figure something out.

Attention Last.fm/Audioscrobbler users

I’ve made my two full-length releases- Day By Daydream and Purification Sessions -available for listening via last.fm. You can stream, tag, talk smack and all of that good stuff, so what are you wating for?

Another blog - playtherecords

playtherecords has been a regular in my Bloglines reading for a while. Don’t know why it hasn’t made it into the links here yet… No time like the present!

Soon to be added to the links sidebar, a nice little music blog/podcast with tons of other resources on the subpages. Check it out!

Episode 13 - Makeoutsession 1

This week’s podcast is a svelte and sexy session from 4 (well, 3.5) incredible net.labels. If it’s getting as cold where you are as it is here at mission control, you’ll appreciate this soundtrack built to accompany you and your favorite companion as you embark on a strange and dangerous mission to raise the ambient temperature via body proximity. Take off those pressure suits and get cozy!

Later, after the sun rises again, make sure to visit Monotonik, Filtro and Thinner/Autoplate to download these releases, and many more besides.

Off The Sky - Her Soft Circumference
Bern - It’s Today
Sectorrchestra - Muted Day
Psilodump - Orntanke7
Qeshi - Take Care Of Your Onaka
Bifidus - Solucion
Transistor - Lobby
Motionfield - Falling in Stillness

Sounds Pages Fixed

For those of you who were frustrated by not being able to download the free samples from their new location… my sloppy coding has been fixed. Download away, and look for new loops to be added in the near future.

Updates - Krushjob - Website

Big updates around here for the holiday season… We’ll take them one at a time.

Krushjob - I’m really happy to announce that the new Logickal EP has been picked up for distribution by Dpulse. The 30 minute collection of improvisational bitfunk will be expanded with the addition of bonus live and remixed tracks. It will be available via Dpulse’s store and all of the major music downloading services. I’m hyped to get this one out to everyone - watch for it just after the new year. Downloadable song samples and perhaps a couple of exclusive bits here on FlightDynamics are coming very soon.

Re-Releases - At the same time, I’m working to get a number of older releases available to the general public via Cafepress. At this time, if you want to show a sign of support for independent music by laying down your cd-buying dollar, go pick up a copy of the latest Logickal full-length, Purification Sessions. Day By Daydream is coming within the next week, to be followed by TwoSidesLive.

Website - As you may notice, I’ve begun adding pages (those links in the header at the top of the page) into the structure of Flightdynamics, which will give access to things that formerly lived in other places at offnominal.com. I’m still in the process of getting all of the links sorted out so bear with me in that regard, but you should feel free to explore (and download) at will.

Update: Due to a burst of late-night productivity, both of my full-length releases - Purification Sessions and Day By Daydream - are up and available from Cafepress.
More info, music, podcasts and other fun are just around the corner!

The Eggcorn Database

The Eggcorn Database

This site collects unusual spellings of a particular kind, which have come to be called eggcorns. Typical examples include free reign (instead of free rein) or hone in on (instead of home in on), and many more or less common reshapings of words and expressions: a word or part of a word is semantically reanalyzed, and the spelling reflects the new interpretation.

Those that know me will shudder, knowing that I have found a new resource for correcting or mocking others.

Episode 12 - Neontotem / Pueblo Nuevo net.label

This week, we’re going in two different directions. The set starts with a broken hysterical noisy beat fest megamix from Neontotem, who I’ve been hassling to get me tracks for the podcast since day one. He gave me a coredump, I sorted it out. It should get your blood pumping a little. After that, we change gears to highlight the minimal techno sounds coming out of Santiago, Chile’s Pueblo Nuevo net.label. They’re fairly new on the scene, which lets me feature a track off of each of their releases, so far. If you like what you hear, head over there and download the full releases. Make sure to let them know what you think!

Tracks by Neontotem -
Strepper
Freekouwt
Sizour
Wtco
Tubbyjam
Bibb
Eyewasnight

Tracks from Pueblo Nuevo - Visit them at http://www.pueblonuevo.cl
Chiste - Position 28
Freddy Musri - Tehuelche
Djef - CZ101
Hans Carstens - Ondulado
Djef - Live at Trianon Club (Excerpt)

New Look, New Link

You might notice things look a bit different around here - I’ve finally moved over to the coolest new WP theme - K2. It’s the sequel to the theme I had running (Kubrick - Kubrick 2… geddit?). I’m still fighting with the header image css though.

In the meantime, I thought I should also pass along to everyone that they owe it to themselves to go check out the new Fognode page. You won’t regret it.

Episode 10 - Logickal Commits Gunpower Treason

This week I’m offering up an actual live set - recorded four days ago (Saturday Nov 5) at Buzz & Click 3 by yours truly. Like almost all of my live sets, it was improvised in real time using Ableton Live - for you AbletonGeeks out there, I used 1 Operator, 3 Impulses, 3 Simplers, a total of 5 abstract synth loops (three of which came from tracks on the new EP - which I hope to have posted very soon), three sends with Beat Repeat, Ping Pong and Grain Delays and 2 open audio tracks for resampling. I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to send an email or take advantage of the comments section if you have anything to say!

Calika - Small Talk Kills Me

Released yesterday via Audiobulb Records - I’d like to recommend this disc to everyone… You may remember that I played the track Quarter Smile on Episode 9 of the podcast. Go back and listen to the next to last track if you need to refresh your memory. Still not convinced? Manchester’s AngryApe gave it a 10/10 review. As a bonus, the first 200 orders receive a ltd-ed PVC Audiobulb sticker. No, I have no affiliation with the folks besides liking their music!

Tell ‘em you heard it on FlightDynamics!

Buzz & Click After>Mathematics

Woo! Thanks to everyone who showed up to the 3rd Edition of Buzz & Click this past Saturday night - especially Hijexx, Flynn23 and Don & Marissa! Even more thanks to everyone who performed and made it as great as it was! Extra Especial props need to go to DJB and the 91.1 Staff for getting it all together. Thanks also to Brass for featuring some of the new EP on his show Sunday morning. I’ve got a ton of stuff to update around here, so be looking for info on the new release in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, pictures of the evening can be found at in my Flickr photostream, in the Buzz & Click 3PO photoset. The Lovely Angelique was the photographer, and unfortunately was working with a nearly-full CF card, so Satellite City was the last act to be photographed before she ran out of space - sorry about that, everyone!

But really - there were fantastic performances from everyone - great video via DJB and Kip - a great venue and a great crowd. What else can you ask for?

Thanks, Nashville Scene!

SceneCriticsPickNashville Scene - Our Critics Picks

A nice writeup for this weekend’s Buzz & Click 3p0. On the plus side, they were kind enough to use my photo. We’ll cut Jason Shawhan some slack for not mentioning me (or LSB, or Tomorrow Ishikawa, or Bluff Duo) in the writeup itself. ;) They also used a snippet of a new track in their podcast for this week. Thanks, Nashville Scene!

Still working feverishly to finish up the new EP in time for this weekend… Also need to get a good rehearsal in. Good thing I work improvisationally, eh?
