Everyone should RUN, not walk, to 45tribute.com and donate $5 in memory of Elektron co-founder Daniel Hansson. Your $5 goes to the World Wildlife Fund, and in return you get 30 tracks (with an additional 31 tracks available for free) from a seriously incredibly group of artists. It’s good music for a good cause, so what are you waiting for?

My brother is on the font page at YouTube. Way to gho!
My definitive statement re: Tibet, China and the Olympics is forthcoming.
Speaker Pelosi: “I was reading the paper the other day as the torch was going through Paris that one of the carriers of the torch said that what was happening with the protesters was ‘very unpleasant.’ And I thought ‘You think that’s unpleasant? Maybe you should be in the subhuman conditions that the refugees are in Darfur. If you think that’s unpleasant maybe you should be in a prison in Tibet for your faith in His Holiness the Dalai Lama. If you think that’s unpleasant maybe you could still be in prison from the Tiananmen Square Massacre, some people are still in prison from that time.’â€

Anyone who is going to be in Miami for WMC should stop by the Sony Poolside Cabana at the National Hotel where I’ll be laying down a live FlightDynamics Mix for the Remix Hotel festivities on Friday night at 6pm. I’ll also be performing as part of 3kStatic on Saturday night with special guest Parthenon Huxley for what promises to be an interesting little shakedown. I’m really looking forward to catching some of the other sets this weekend (Richards Devine and Hawtin come to mind) and will be braving the elements as it were … anyone in the area, drop me a line!
There is something unspeakably sinister about a machine that does nothing, absolutely nothing-except switch itself off.

March 19 (Bloomberg) — Arthur C. Clarke, the U.K. science- fiction writer and futurist visionary best known for the novel adapted for the film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” has died. He was 90.
Clarke died in his adopted home country of Sri Lanka early today from respiratory complications, according to a statement from his office there. He had suffered from post-polio syndrome for the last two decades of his life and was confined to a wheelchair. Clarke had lived in Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital, since 1956 and held citizenship there.

Ironic - take China off of the list of human rights abusers and look at what happens.
Tricycle has a roundup of BBC stories related to the unrest, and the International Campaign for Tibet has made a statement. I would have more to say (or play for you tonight), but I’m weary. My thoughts are with the Tibetan people tonight, particularly those in Lhasa.
Recorded by Logickal the morning of Saturday, January 12, 2008. Improvisation built entirely from triggered sine-wave synth notes that begin the piece, permutated using Live’s Sampler instrument and Follow Actions. Featuring a cameo appearance from some of the Daevl.Plugs for good measure. The structure of the piece flows through the permutations in a fairly linear manner.
Edmund Hillary, First on Everest, Dies at 88 - New York Times
Sir Edmund Hillary, the lanky New Zealand mountaineer and explorer who with Tenzing Norgay, his Sherpa guide, won worldwide acclaim in 1953 by becoming the first to scale the 29,035-foot summit of Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, has died, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark announced Friday in Wellington.
He was 88.
Original take recorded Jan 1 2008. Permutated twice on Jan 2 and Jan 3. Mixed in reverse chronological order.
May All Beings Be Happy.
In a little over 15 minutes local time, it will be Xmas. So, from me to all of you - here is an improvised Carol, a subliminal hymn. It may be a little darker in tone than the usual “Peace on Earth,” but you know that is implied. The Solstice just passed means our days will start getting a little longer, even though it’s bound to be colder still.
Enjoy - if I don’t talk to you sooner, have a happy new year!
David Byrne’s Survival Strategies for Emerging Artists — and Megastars
What is called the music business today, however, is not the business of producing music. At some point it became the business of selling CDs in plastic cases, and that business will soon be over. But that’s not bad news for music, and it’s certainly not bad news for musicians. Indeed, with all the ways to reach an audience, there have never been more opportunities for artists.
But it was really good. It released us from something. It wasn’t nihilistic, implying that the music’s not worth anything at all. It was the total opposite. And people took it as it was meant. Maybe that’s just people having a little faith in what we’re doing.
Everyone should definitely read this: Matt Jeanes is right on, and he brings his customary humor to it as well.
See the jaded way that Pitchfork writes about things that they LIKE and you’ll see how easy it is to get cynical about that perceived desperation on the other end of every package that comes with a note that says “please love me.” Being a small label or an unsigned artist often feels a bit like being that pimply, fat dude with mismatching clothes who asks the class president and cheer team captain to the prom. You know you have almost no shot, but you go for it anyway because fuck, you believe in yourself and you see that she has a Ramones sticker on her 3 Ring Binder and that has to count for something, right?
Someone made it out to Buzz and Click and made it just in time to make part of my set…
The lone laptopper, clad in a shirt and tie, toyed with various other gadgets generating soundscapes of blips, glitches, pops and crackles with a clutter of crunching and jumbled beats that occasionally locked into a discernible groove, only to crumble back into sonic rubble.
Some of you may recall that this past weekend was the fifth installment of that annual festival of the Nashdiggity’s finest electronic noise, Buzz and Click. A wonderful time was had by all… thanks to all of the other performers for putting on such great sets.
It is my normal custom to record all of my sets - unfortunately, this night I was most of the way through my set before I realized I hadn’t started recording… So, I present to you a compilation of rehearsal takes made on Friday and Saturday (12/7 and 12/8), closing out with the last 8 minutes or so from the Buzz and Click performance itself.
Rolling Stone : Led Zeppelin: The Full Report From David Fricke
This one was rehearsed, ready and out to kill. This band was Led Zeppelin in every way.
To all those who are too highbrow for Zeppelin… Lighten up. This is ROCK AWESOMENESS.
The composer Karlheinz Stockhausen passed away on December 5th 2007 at his home in Kuerten-Kettenberg and will be buried in the Waldfriedhof (forest cemetery) in Kuerten.
It’s that time again, folks - Nashville’s finest electronic musicians convene at The End (2219 Elliston Place) this Saturday for a night of live grooves and glitchouts. Your pal Logickal will be finally making a Nashville appearance at 11pm after being so rude as to let Atlanta get most of the fun this year. It’s another great lineup, featuring:
Forrest Bride - Matt Hamilton - 84001 - Bluff Duo - Athena Blue - Oliver Dodd - Logickal - Anemone - Jensen Sportag - Let’s Say Baltimore
Show starts at 8, with bands every 30 minutes and a $5 cover! How can you go wrong?
Just to give everyone the heads-up… Twelve Offerings is now available on iTunes Music Store (and iTunes Plus) and Beatport. Unfortunately, I cannot include personalized donation messages for sales via these services, but all proceeds will be donated regardless. If you’ve been waiting for one of these services to carry it to donate, now is the time (although buying the CD directly will prove to be a bigger donation).
