NOPHEST ATL - Harmaline and 3kStatic

It’s that time again, little robots! Come out to Park Grounds in Atlanta for Nophest 4 & 20 - two stage, tons of bands, April 18-20. Be there Saturday night for a rare appearance from the entire Harmaline combo as we perform our upcoming EP live and 3kStatic brings the future funkiness. $20 for all weekend pass, and did I mention the free beer? See you all there!

FlightDynamics Live @ Remix Hotel Miami / WMC

Anyone who is going to be in Miami for WMC should stop by the Sony Poolside Cabana at the National Hotel where I’ll be laying down a live FlightDynamics Mix for the Remix Hotel festivities on Friday night at 6pm. I’ll also be performing as part of 3kStatic on Saturday night with special guest Parthenon Huxley for what promises to be an interesting little shakedown. I’m really looking forward to catching some of the other sets this weekend (Richards Devine and Hawtin come to mind) and will be braving the elements as it were … anyone in the area, drop me a line!

Nashville Scene - The Spin

Someone made it out to Buzz and Click and made it just in time to make part of my set…

The lone laptopper, clad in a shirt and tie, toyed with various other gadgets generating soundscapes of blips, glitches, pops and crackles with a clutter of crunching and jumbled beats that occasionally locked into a discernible groove, only to crumble back into sonic rubble.

Episode 40 - Logickal Buzzes In, Clicks Out

Some of you may recall that this past weekend was the fifth installment of that annual festival of the Nashdiggity’s finest electronic noise, Buzz and Click. A wonderful time was had by all… thanks to all of the other performers for putting on such great sets.

It is my normal custom to record all of my sets - unfortunately, this night I was most of the way through my set before I realized I hadn’t started recording… So, I present to you a compilation of rehearsal takes made on Friday and Saturday (12/7 and 12/8), closing out with the last 8 minutes or so from the Buzz and Click performance itself.

Buzz and Click 5 - This Saturday

It’s that time again, folks - Nashville’s finest electronic musicians convene at The End (2219 Elliston Place) this Saturday for a night of live grooves and glitchouts. Your pal Logickal will be finally making a Nashville appearance at 11pm after being so rude as to let Atlanta get most of the fun this year. It’s another great lineup, featuring:

Forrest Bride - Matt Hamilton - 84001 - Bluff Duo - Athena Blue - Oliver Dodd - Logickal - Anemone - Jensen Sportag - Let’s Say Baltimore

Show starts at 8, with bands every 30 minutes and a $5 cover! How can you go wrong?

Attention, New York City! I need your help!

Hi everybody - sorry if you’re getting tired of seeing me crosspost this all over the internets…

It looks like Logickal and 3kStatic are going to be heading back to NYC for the RemixHotel NY event between May 18-20, and I’m trying to see if there’s anyone in the area with an open performance slot at a show, (house) party, art gallery, etc. on either the 18th or 19th in order to maximize the trip up from Nashville. I have a feeling that the RemixHotel performances will be pretty aggressive and beat-oriented, so it would be very nice to fit in a more esoteric/atmospheric set somewhere over the weekend, although any and all opportunities would be great!

If anyone has anything going on, please drop me a line and let me know - I’m aware that it’s pretty last minute, so many thanks in advance for even the smallest lead or tip!

Attn: Atlanta! Fusistance is Retile!

This weekend is Nophest 4.20, featuring the debut of Harmaline on Saturday night (midnight) and 3kStatic on Sunday (7:30).  A Wonderful Time is Guaranteed for All.

Logickal - Nophest and Video

Alright - A quick pre-Thanksgiving reminder to all you ATL folks to come out to Nophest, a weekend-long festival of music and crafts being sponsored by our good friends at Nophi Records.  Friday night’s entertainment consists of a large number of laptop/electronic performers inside, including yours truly at 10:30.  It should be a wonderful evening for all kinds of glitchiness, so come out to the 11:11 Teahouse - everything starts at 8pm on the 24th, and costs $10 a day or $25 for a weekend pass.

In other Logickal news, DJB is getting video up from the Buzz and Click show back at the beginning of the month… You can check out the Logickal performance in Real Video or Windows Media (what, John??? No Quicktime!?!) or head over to the Buzz and Click 4 page for the rest of the artists… 3kStatic should be up in a day or two, methinks.

So, happy holiday - and hope to see some of you in Atlanta!

3kNYC Again

Ok, so any New York City types should come out tomorrow night (that’s the 17th of November for you unobservant time-traveling types)to the Ace of Clubs (9 Great Jones Street between Broadway and Lafayette) and say hi as 3kStatic brings the noise to the Big Apple for the second time this year. Doors open at 7 for this $10 show - also on the bill are Adam Lippmann, The Energy, Scarlet X and Telenovela Star (looks like 3k is the only electronic noise on the bill).

Update: Looks like the logistics are in, and I’ll be flying solo for this one! Come out if you’re in the area, and stay tuned for more exciting NYC 3kNews on the horizon!

Last.fm

Check out the last.fm event pages for Buzz & Click and Nophest, listen and dig on the artists thereof!

Oh… and Nohpest, Glitches!

Logickal is finally going to get some ATL-style love courtesy of our friends down at Nophi Recordings, who are hosting the first ever Nophest over the weekend of 24-26 November.  Big, huge, dirty ups to Threv and R_Garcia for inviting me down.  Although the page lists me at 1:30-2:00 AM on Friday, I think I’ve been moved to 10:30-11:00 (also Friday).  Hope to see some of my Atlanta-type friends out there for the free beer!

Buzz and Click 4

On Saturday November 4, that monster that DJ B and I created is shuffling back into town - That’s right, it’s Buzz and Click time again! On the advent of this 4th installment of the Mid-South’s premier electronic music showcase, the net has been cast out a bit further this year, bringing more artists from the greater South East and more variety to the evening’s entertainment! This year’s lineup:

Also, it’s going back to its birthplace: The End on Elliston Place. This is a great room to play in in a great location. Once again, it’s being sponsored by WRVU Radio , and the $5 goes directly to benefit the radio station. Because of the number of artists on the bill, music starts promptly at 8, so don’t be late!

Executive Summary

Buzz & Click 4, Saturday November 4th - The End (2219 Elliston Place) 8pm - $5

Oh, and keep your ears/feed readers peeled for a podcast with these fine ferlks in the next few weeks!

Episode 32b - Happy Birthday to Me & Laconical Part 2

Yup - I’m 1/3 away from LP Age. Had a wonderful night out with my most favoritest people (at least those that are over the age of majority). Now rehearsal tonight and a short workweek before the trek to Florida for two 3kStatic gigs, opening up for none other than George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando. Really looking forward to it, for obvious reasons! Also, going to see the new Depeche Mode concert film tomorrow at the local IMAX. Oh, and my remix of Andrew Duke’s Consumer v. User samples has netted me a prize of some kind - I didn’t make the remix release, but was a semi-finallist.  Thanks, Guys!

Busy times, but it’s the good kind of busy!

Oh, and before I forget - here’s the second half of Episode 32 of the podcast! More coming after I get back into town.

Felix Building - Sakura Week
Juno6 - Argonaut
Xyn - Tranquility (Acid Edit)
Felix Building - Headache Song
Cagey House - Like A Reptile
Juno6 - Into the Wind Stranded
Fisk Industries - The Azimuth At Zero Degrees
Drugs Made Me Smarter - Morning Glory Seeds at Sunset
Stefanos Kourtis - Sorry Acid

Hitting The Road

In about an hour, Lilith and I are hitting the road with 3kMan Dean Capone to make the trek to meet our NYC Destiny at The Knitting Factory. If any of you are in the New York area, come out tomorrow night to get a dose of our road show, featuring two men in jackets laying down some seriously danceable grooves with the Remote 25 and the MacBook. Our journey is shaping up to be a urban techno trek across America, in many ways similar to Fellowship of the Rings… minus the little people, kings slumming as rangers in the wilderness (okay, so Angelique thinks this one is appropriate, for some reason), Elves with bows and that whole “one ring” thing. Oh, and we’re a little short on Gandolfs, too. Maybe it’s more like… Hmmm. No, it probably isn’t.

So, setting out armed with the MacBook, iPod, $50 worth of magazines and my crappy cameraphone, and I’m hoping I can document this little adventure I’ve gotten myself into! Stay tuned.

Logickal Gets With The Counterprogram

counterprogam_promo.jpg

Thanks to mainman Dean Capone, I’m really pleased to announce that I will be performing as part of 3kstatic in July, on the 17th here in Nashville at The Basement and on the 20th in New York City at The Knitting Factory Old Office.  Also coming along are Jan Pulsford and Robert Bond - I’m supremely honored to be sharing the stage with all of these musicians.  If you’re in the neigborhood for either of these shows, come on down - They promise to be a lot of fun!

2/26 - Nophi visits Nashville/Project168

Anyone reading/listening in the greater Nashville area should come out to The 5 Spot this Sunday (Feb 26) to help us welcome our friends R_Garcia and The Secret Life to town on a micro-mini-tour fresh from Randy’s move to ATL… Logickal will of course be bringing it as well. The show is at 9pm, with a $5 cover.

There’s nothing like heading right into mad dash prep for show mode right after being sick. It makes stuff fall through the cracks, like letting everyone know the the 3rd installment of Project168 is now online, including the latest Logickal release, entitled Scientific Romances. If you missed the podcast a few weeks ago featuring the first two iterations, the concept behind Project168 is for artists to create an EP in 1 week - 168 hours. This time around, 82 artists participated, giving the electronic music fan a huge gift in the form of hours of free music. Go now, download away!

Speaking of podcast, I don’t think there will be one this week. There’s lots of preparation to be done for this weekend’s gig, but never fear - FlightDynamics will return. I’ve had some folks send me links to their new material, plus the above mentioned p168 means I have a slew of new tracks to push out onto the feed at you. More soon!

Episode 10 - Logickal Commits Gunpower Treason

This week I’m offering up an actual live set - recorded four days ago (Saturday Nov 5) at Buzz & Click 3 by yours truly. Like almost all of my live sets, it was improvised in real time using Ableton Live - for you AbletonGeeks out there, I used 1 Operator, 3 Impulses, 3 Simplers, a total of 5 abstract synth loops (three of which came from tracks on the new EP - which I hope to have posted very soon), three sends with Beat Repeat, Ping Pong and Grain Delays and 2 open audio tracks for resampling. I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to send an email or take advantage of the comments section if you have anything to say!

Buzz & Click After>Mathematics

Woo! Thanks to everyone who showed up to the 3rd Edition of Buzz & Click this past Saturday night - especially Hijexx, Flynn23 and Don & Marissa! Even more thanks to everyone who performed and made it as great as it was! Extra Especial props need to go to DJB and the 91.1 Staff for getting it all together. Thanks also to Brass for featuring some of the new EP on his show Sunday morning. I’ve got a ton of stuff to update around here, so be looking for info on the new release in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, pictures of the evening can be found at in my Flickr photostream, in the Buzz & Click 3PO photoset. The Lovely Angelique was the photographer, and unfortunately was working with a nearly-full CF card, so Satellite City was the last act to be photographed before she ran out of space - sorry about that, everyone!

But really - there were fantastic performances from everyone - great video via DJB and Kip - a great venue and a great crowd. What else can you ask for?

Thanks, Nashville Scene!

SceneCriticsPickNashville Scene - Our Critics Picks

A nice writeup for this weekend’s Buzz & Click 3p0. On the plus side, they were kind enough to use my photo. We’ll cut Jason Shawhan some slack for not mentioning me (or LSB, or Tomorrow Ishikawa, or Bluff Duo) in the writeup itself. ;) They also used a snippet of a new track in their podcast for this week. Thanks, Nashville Scene!

Still working feverishly to finish up the new EP in time for this weekend… Also need to get a good rehearsal in. Good thing I work improvisationally, eh?

Hurricane Thoughts & Radio Haze

First of all, I just found out that our friend Randy Garcia and the the rest of the Nophi operation in Ft. Lauderdale were devastated by Hurricane Wilma. All of our thoughts are with them as they try to recover - please consider donating the Red Cross or contacting Threv about anything else you might be able to do for these folks.

Tomorrow (Sunday 30oct) I will be making an appearance on The Mixdown on WRVU Nashville along with Tomorrow Ishikawa to participate in some pre-Buzz & Click hype. You can tune in locally at 91.1 WRVU or get a Real Audio stream here - if you miss it, all of the shows are archived, so there’s no excuse not to listen!

Buzz & Click 3PO

Still working on a new podcast. You can choose your own adventure with this one. I’m either:

  • Working feverishly on both a new episode of the podcast and a live set for an upcoming perfomance (see below). OR…
  • Playing videogames, surfing the web, messing with my new bicycle. OR…
  • A little of both, plus watching the kids because the wife is working her new job and playing around with psychedelic video for possible inclusion in the performance.

You be the judge.

In the meantime, all Nashville-area readers should definately stencil the date November 5, 2005 on their calendars, digital watches, sundials, dayplanners, blackberries, palmpilots, whatever you have. Why? The third edition of the annual Buzz & Click showcase, sponsored by and benefiting Nashville’s finest radio station (Vanderbilt’s 91.1 WRVU) and featuring all the best electronic and experimental music Nashvegas has to offer. Here’s the lineup:

8-8:25 Matt Hamilton
8:30-9 Birdfeeder
9-9:25 Let’s Say Baltimore
9:30-10 Bluff Duo
10-10:25 Logickal
10:30-11 Satellite City
11-11:25 3kStatic
11:30-12 Athena Blue
12-12:25 Jensen Sportag
12:30-1 Ishikawa Tomorrow

It happens Saturday the 5th at the 5 Spot and is a measly 5 bux (Detecting a theme here?). Come out or be forever shamed!

April Discrepancy Shows

The third week in April is going to be a busy one for those of us around here at OffnominalHQ… We have not one, but two killer shows coming up that week. Everyone in the Nashville/Mid-TN area should try to make it to these gigs, as they promise to rock.

Rgarciaposterweb

First up, on Tuesday Apr19, we’re welcoming R_Garcia (check out Nophi.net and randygarcia.com for more info) into the fold to lay his bleep science and bit shimmying on the unsuspecting crowd at Hair of the Dog. Rounding out the bill are Logickal, Qlippoth and, fresh off of the Japanese leg of his world tour- Mr. Natural. Great depth and breadth here in this lineup, folks - and the sound at the Dog is awesome. In addition, tune in to the Mixdown on 91.1 WRVU this Sunday (April 10) for a taste of his music and a phone-in appearance by Randy himself. Cover is $5.

Krankyflyerweb

Then, on Thursday the 21 we’re proud to be involved in bringing three artists we really admire to Music City - Keith Fullerton Whitman, Greg Davis and The Birdshow are playing at Angle of View. If you aren’t familliar with these guys, we can only recommend that you get with the program (Hint: Visit Kranky’s website)! This is going to be an evening filled with the best in left-field electronics. This is a special show anyway, but it’s being made even more unique by providing the venue for the reunion of 9R3R023 - the 90’s dark experimental duo that spawned Mr. Natural and Logickal. We’re really looking forward to collaborating again after so many years, and it promises to be a unique experience. It’s a $5 show - for a lineup like this, an incredible bargain.
There’s a ton of other stuff going on right now, and once we make some headway and things settle down, we’ll post the details here first. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to comment, head over to the messageboard and drop us a line.

GLKWeb.com and the Mr. Natural World Tour

His Elusiveness Mr. Natural kicks off his world tour tonight by opening for the esteemed Justice Yeldham, accompanied by many others which you can read about in this other blog post. In the meantime, his tour itinerary is now available, and let me tell you - if he’s arriving in your area, you should drop everything and check out his plantlife audio alchemy.

We’re also proud to announce that these dates are being served to you from the brand new glkweb! Gender-less Kibbutz finally have a permanent home on The Internets! The site is skeletal at the moment, but it will become more informational in the very near future.
