Logickal - Krushjob - 25April2006

I’m VERY excited to announce that Krushjob, first released last autumn in a limited edition of 30, is finally on the eve of release to a wider audience via dPulse Recordings, expanded with a host of new tracks! On April 25th, Krushjob will be available through all major download services (I’m partial to iTunes, myself…) and the dPulse Recordings store.

This second edition is expanded from the original, and I’m most excited that our friend R_Garcia from Nophi Recordings gave us a totally werked out remix of Polar Attractor, showing his aggressive side and putting an edge on one of the more weightless tracks on the album. As an added bonus, download customers will be able to aquire three additional exclusive bonus tracks. Anyone who hasn’t heard the original can check out previews over at the dPulse site, and I’ll likely have some tracks mixxed up on the next episode of FlightDynamics.

2/26 - Nophi visits Nashville/Project168

Anyone reading/listening in the greater Nashville area should come out to The 5 Spot this Sunday (Feb 26) to help us welcome our friends R_Garcia and The Secret Life to town on a micro-mini-tour fresh from Randy’s move to ATL… Logickal will of course be bringing it as well. The show is at 9pm, with a $5 cover.

There’s nothing like heading right into mad dash prep for show mode right after being sick. It makes stuff fall through the cracks, like letting everyone know the the 3rd installment of Project168 is now online, including the latest Logickal release, entitled Scientific Romances. If you missed the podcast a few weeks ago featuring the first two iterations, the concept behind Project168 is for artists to create an EP in 1 week - 168 hours. This time around, 82 artists participated, giving the electronic music fan a huge gift in the form of hours of free music. Go now, download away!

Speaking of podcast, I don’t think there will be one this week. There’s lots of preparation to be done for this weekend’s gig, but never fear - FlightDynamics will return. I’ve had some folks send me links to their new material, plus the above mentioned p168 means I have a slew of new tracks to push out onto the feed at you. More soon!

Logickal makes DJ B’s top 10 list

A big hat tip to our friend DJ B, host of the Mixdown on WRVU for including the limited handmade edition of Krushjob in his top 10 records of 2005 list. John is one of the cornerstones of our scene here in Nashville, and I can’t thank him enough for all of his support. You can read his list (along with lists from a bunch of other DJs - his is the last on the page) here.

In celebration, I’ve got 3 copies of the limited edition left for the first 3 people to email their addresses to info@offnominal.com - just to see if anyone is paying attention.
In the meantime, we’re working hard on getting the unlimited edition of Krushjob finished up and out where everyone can hear the deal, so stay tuned. I’ll be looking for those emails!

Logickal’s Animal Do:Nation

dona01cat.gif

Just a quick heads up that the Logickal track “Dirt is Friendly” is included new Nophi Do:Nation compilation CD alongside tracks by Am, Recompas, Kalx, Melissa Axel and others from around the Nophi crew for a total of 15 artists. It’s only $10 from the Nophi shop, is over an hour long and best of all - the entire proceeds go to Animal Charities of America. It’s only available until March 30, so do a good deed for your furry (and non-furry) friends and pick one up. Still not convinced? Read Randy’s full announcement over at his site.

Attention Last.fm/Audioscrobbler users

I’ve made my two full-length releases- Day By Daydream and Purification Sessions -available for listening via last.fm. You can stream, tag, talk smack and all of that good stuff, so what are you wating for?

Updates - Krushjob - Website

Big updates around here for the holiday season… We’ll take them one at a time.

Krushjob - I’m really happy to announce that the new Logickal EP has been picked up for distribution by Dpulse. The 30 minute collection of improvisational bitfunk will be expanded with the addition of bonus live and remixed tracks. It will be available via Dpulse’s store and all of the major music downloading services. I’m hyped to get this one out to everyone - watch for it just after the new year. Downloadable song samples and perhaps a couple of exclusive bits here on FlightDynamics are coming very soon.

Re-Releases - At the same time, I’m working to get a number of older releases available to the general public via Cafepress. At this time, if you want to show a sign of support for independent music by laying down your cd-buying dollar, go pick up a copy of the latest Logickal full-length, Purification Sessions. Day By Daydream is coming within the next week, to be followed by TwoSidesLive.

Website - As you may notice, I’ve begun adding pages (those links in the header at the top of the page) into the structure of Flightdynamics, which will give access to things that formerly lived in other places at offnominal.com. I’m still in the process of getting all of the links sorted out so bear with me in that regard, but you should feel free to explore (and download) at will.

Update: Due to a burst of late-night productivity, both of my full-length releases - Purification Sessions and Day By Daydream - are up and available from Cafepress.
More info, music, podcasts and other fun are just around the corner!

Episode 10 - Logickal Commits Gunpower Treason

This week I’m offering up an actual live set - recorded four days ago (Saturday Nov 5) at Buzz & Click 3 by yours truly. Like almost all of my live sets, it was improvised in real time using Ableton Live - for you AbletonGeeks out there, I used 1 Operator, 3 Impulses, 3 Simplers, a total of 5 abstract synth loops (three of which came from tracks on the new EP - which I hope to have posted very soon), three sends with Beat Repeat, Ping Pong and Grain Delays and 2 open audio tracks for resampling. I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to send an email or take advantage of the comments section if you have anything to say!

Buzz & Click After>Mathematics

Woo! Thanks to everyone who showed up to the 3rd Edition of Buzz & Click this past Saturday night - especially Hijexx, Flynn23 and Don & Marissa! Even more thanks to everyone who performed and made it as great as it was! Extra Especial props need to go to DJB and the 91.1 Staff for getting it all together. Thanks also to Brass for featuring some of the new EP on his show Sunday morning. I’ve got a ton of stuff to update around here, so be looking for info on the new release in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, pictures of the evening can be found at in my Flickr photostream, in the Buzz & Click 3PO photoset. The Lovely Angelique was the photographer, and unfortunately was working with a nearly-full CF card, so Satellite City was the last act to be photographed before she ran out of space - sorry about that, everyone!

But really - there were fantastic performances from everyone - great video via DJB and Kip - a great venue and a great crowd. What else can you ask for?

Thanks, Nashville Scene!

SceneCriticsPickNashville Scene - Our Critics Picks

A nice writeup for this weekend’s Buzz & Click 3p0. On the plus side, they were kind enough to use my photo. We’ll cut Jason Shawhan some slack for not mentioning me (or LSB, or Tomorrow Ishikawa, or Bluff Duo) in the writeup itself. ;) They also used a snippet of a new track in their podcast for this week. Thanks, Nashville Scene!

Still working feverishly to finish up the new EP in time for this weekend… Also need to get a good rehearsal in. Good thing I work improvisationally, eh?

Hurricane Thoughts & Radio Haze

First of all, I just found out that our friend Randy Garcia and the the rest of the Nophi operation in Ft. Lauderdale were devastated by Hurricane Wilma. All of our thoughts are with them as they try to recover - please consider donating the Red Cross or contacting Threv about anything else you might be able to do for these folks.

Tomorrow (Sunday 30oct) I will be making an appearance on The Mixdown on WRVU Nashville along with Tomorrow Ishikawa to participate in some pre-Buzz & Click hype. You can tune in locally at 91.1 WRVU or get a Real Audio stream here - if you miss it, all of the shows are archived, so there’s no excuse not to listen!

Buzz & Click 3PO

Still working on a new podcast. You can choose your own adventure with this one. I’m either:

  • Working feverishly on both a new episode of the podcast and a live set for an upcoming perfomance (see below). OR…
  • Playing videogames, surfing the web, messing with my new bicycle. OR…
  • A little of both, plus watching the kids because the wife is working her new job and playing around with psychedelic video for possible inclusion in the performance.

You be the judge.

In the meantime, all Nashville-area readers should definately stencil the date November 5, 2005 on their calendars, digital watches, sundials, dayplanners, blackberries, palmpilots, whatever you have. Why? The third edition of the annual Buzz & Click showcase, sponsored by and benefiting Nashville’s finest radio station (Vanderbilt’s 91.1 WRVU) and featuring all the best electronic and experimental music Nashvegas has to offer. Here’s the lineup:

8-8:25 Matt Hamilton
8:30-9 Birdfeeder
9-9:25 Let’s Say Baltimore
9:30-10 Bluff Duo
10-10:25 Logickal
10:30-11 Satellite City
11-11:25 3kStatic
11:30-12 Athena Blue
12-12:25 Jensen Sportag
12:30-1 Ishikawa Tomorrow

It happens Saturday the 5th at the 5 Spot and is a measly 5 bux (Detecting a theme here?). Come out or be forever shamed!

April Discrepancy Shows

The third week in April is going to be a busy one for those of us around here at OffnominalHQ… We have not one, but two killer shows coming up that week. Everyone in the Nashville/Mid-TN area should try to make it to these gigs, as they promise to rock.

Rgarciaposterweb

First up, on Tuesday Apr19, we’re welcoming R_Garcia (check out Nophi.net and randygarcia.com for more info) into the fold to lay his bleep science and bit shimmying on the unsuspecting crowd at Hair of the Dog. Rounding out the bill are Logickal, Qlippoth and, fresh off of the Japanese leg of his world tour- Mr. Natural. Great depth and breadth here in this lineup, folks - and the sound at the Dog is awesome. In addition, tune in to the Mixdown on 91.1 WRVU this Sunday (April 10) for a taste of his music and a phone-in appearance by Randy himself. Cover is $5.

Krankyflyerweb

Then, on Thursday the 21 we’re proud to be involved in bringing three artists we really admire to Music City - Keith Fullerton Whitman, Greg Davis and The Birdshow are playing at Angle of View. If you aren’t familliar with these guys, we can only recommend that you get with the program (Hint: Visit Kranky’s website)! This is going to be an evening filled with the best in left-field electronics. This is a special show anyway, but it’s being made even more unique by providing the venue for the reunion of 9R3R023 - the 90’s dark experimental duo that spawned Mr. Natural and Logickal. We’re really looking forward to collaborating again after so many years, and it promises to be a unique experience. It’s a $5 show - for a lineup like this, an incredible bargain.
There’s a ton of other stuff going on right now, and once we make some headway and things settle down, we’ll post the details here first. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to comment, head over to the messageboard and drop us a line.

GLKWeb.com and the Mr. Natural World Tour

His Elusiveness Mr. Natural kicks off his world tour tonight by opening for the esteemed Justice Yeldham, accompanied by many others which you can read about in this other blog post. In the meantime, his tour itinerary is now available, and let me tell you - if he’s arriving in your area, you should drop everything and check out his plantlife audio alchemy.

We’re also proud to announce that these dates are being served to you from the brand new glkweb! Gender-less Kibbutz finally have a permanent home on The Internets! The site is skeletal at the moment, but it will become more informational in the very near future.

New Treatments…

I’m pleased to announce that there are two new tracks available now at The Treatment Plant. I’d like to welcome 4th Sign of the Apocalypse and James Jandt to our list of purifiers… Go check them out and let them know what you think of their purification skills. To them (and especially to 4th Sign) I’d like to apologise for the delay in getting these tracks up. To everyone else, I’d like to encourage you all to continue downloading the sources (because I know that you are) and send us your tracks!

The week past, future times…

Been relatively busy the past week or so, so sorry about the lack of new updates longer than a few words long… Been working a bit making some long, very drone-oriented peices using that little gem of FM synthesis called Operator, which has been fun. Once I get a few of those finished, could a mini-release be too far off? I have received a couple of new submissions to the Treatment Plant project, which I need to get onto the webpage ASAP… sorry about the delay!

Working with Mr. Natural on mastering and artwork for the next two GLK releases, trying to get those together before he embarks on his world tour (dates and info on the shows and the final details of the releases will be here in a day or two…). He’s going to be kicking off the tour with a gig on Friday 3/11 at Angle of View, opening for Lucas Abella. Qlippoth and Catheter Stretch will also be performing, so it should be a good noisy time. The lineup and further details can be read about here.

Working on artwerk for the CD release of Logickal’s SewageTreatments. Can’t wait to be done with that. Working on the final specifics, but have a couple of great (perhaps even incredible) shows happening in April… stay tune-ed!

Get the hang of Thursday…

Because I shore haven’t. Recouperating today after two days of great gigs and very little sleep… The quick recap - Angle of View show rocks solid, meet the 404noise crew for Atlanta action, Logickal last-minutes his way into improv oblivion for a brief meetup with Jhonn Balance in the lobby of an imaginary alien nightclub… more after the break.

Logickal - Sewage Treatment

As promised, in celebration of Valentine’s Day, the first installment of Treatment Plant reworkings is now online in the form of Sewage Treatment by Logickal. It’s more minimal/abstract than most of the other Logickal material - but that’s not a bad thing. Those that want to support Discrec and Offnominal - keep your eyes open for an affordable “hardcopy” CD release in March.

In the meantime, download away and remember- This musick is also available for use in your own tracks for the project… Who loves ya, baby?

Ill Winds…

Woke up sick this morning. Feeling terrible, so what do I do? No, I didn’t rest in bed - I made some updates to the site. Besides some tweaking here and there, there are now complete recordings of Logickal’s sets from August 19 and August 29th of 2004 are now available on the Music page. These sets highlight my current live methodology quite well - lots of the improvised sequencing and programming that Live 4 makes possible. Caution - these are large 30-odd minute mp3s, so mind your bandwidth. Also, as promised - Last Seen on the Shift, the Logickal track from Darkwinter’s Tribute to Jhonn Balance.

Enjoy!

More info about Feb 15th

Want more information about next Tuesday’s Mr. Natural show? The full lineup is Emil Beaulieau (The world’s greatest living noise artist>, Jessica Rylan, John Wiese, Mr. Natural, Taiwan Death and Cherry Blossoms. It’s happening at 9pm, is all ages and is at Field of View (417 Gallatin Ave). Don’t know about any cover, but bring some cash just in case - there will certainly be merchandise on sale to support the artists.

Jessica Rylan has a site here, along with a tour page here. John Wiese’s page is here. Of course, you should check out RRR Records.

Let me know if you need any further info, and we hope to see some of you there!

When It Rains…(Show News Is Good News)

Thanks again to DJB for letting me join him on The Mixdown this morning… It was a blast this morning. Got the chance to sneak preview some tracks from Treatment Plant 1 for the lovely listeners. You can check it out yourself by heading to the RealAudio archive of the show.

Thanks also are due to him for inviting me out to play next Wednesday the 16th at The Muse, opening for The Octopus Project and Peelander-Z. This looks like its going to be an awesome show with some really unique bands (I mean, check ut Peelander-Z’s website for kitessake!), so all Nashville-local personas should check in.

Also going on next week - On Tuesday the 15th you have Mr. Natural playing along with Emil Beaulieau, Jessica Rylan and John Wiese at Angle of View. Then, make sure to check out Qlippoth at The Muse on Friday the 18th, for some live dark experimental music. Who says Nashville doesn’t have an incredible underground scene?

Oh, and don’t forget that Logickal’s Sewage Treatment will be available to download just in time for Valentine’s Day (that’s Monday Feb 14 for all of you without a love bug).
